Turn it Up: Our Festival Essentials

There is nothing better than really good music. Still, I can never get over how what turns us on, musically I mean, can be so different for each person. While one of my best friends gets chills from country crooners, the lyrics just make me laugh. As for me, well, let's just say I'm eclectic. My dad worked at a classic rock and oldies station, so I know every lyric to everything from The Beatles to Abba. Meanwhile, my mom was a classical guru so at home, it was Mozart and Saint Saens all the way. In highschool my friends and I listened to Snoop and anything Top 40 but in University, my roommate was obsessed with Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails. Imagine getting blasted out of bed by that at 8 am every day. Um, good morning? Right now I'm on a Brit kick, with Rita Ora, Emili Sandé and Ben Howard on constant rotation. While I don't think I'll ever 'get' country, I'll never say never b/c I can't argue that Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood do put out some pretty wicked tunes.

For festival goers, it's all about the music but it's also ALL about the clothes, and festival fashion has officially reached a fever pitch now that the outdoor concert season is in full swing. Whether you're still recovering from Coachella or are planning your trip to Osheaga or Bonnaroo, we've found some of the cutest festival gear at White Oaks Mall to help you look the part at your next music fest. And no matter what you're wearing, don't be afraid to let the music move you. Dance, as they say, like nobody's watching. Scroll down for a crash course - this guy certainly didn't let his outfit (or lack thereof) stop him..hee xx

Friday Find: An Of-The-Moment Moto Jacket

AE Denim Moto Jacket, $59.95, American Eagle Outfitters

When it comes to jackets, moto bombers are currently where it's at.  The tell-tale exposed angled zipper, oversized lapels and cropped silhouette will make you look like you're ready to hit the open road, even if you actually drive a mini-van.  Shhh...I won't tell. In this jacket, you'll look edgy and cool - like a true biker babe, minus the high insurance premiums and bugs in the teeth.

I love a moto jacket because it's so super versatile - I wear mine with white skinnies, a buttoned-up blouse and pointy-toe pumps when I want to look polished, or even layer it over my flouncy skirts and floaty summer dresses when I want to add a little edge. Most of the current crop of moto bombers are leather, and thus not super friendly to budget-minded beauties - luckily this AE score is only $59.95 (!) Crazy, right? Now that's a fashion risk I'm totally willing to take...

Happy Friday! Vroom, vroooommmm....

April Showers

A pretty in pink look from Burberry Prorsum Spring '13 - photo Fairchild Photo Services

I never thought I'd say this but I LOVE the rain. After a long Canadian winter, all of this wet stuff can only mean one thing - that the snow has actually melted, which means that the temperatures are rising, which means that pretty soon, we'll be chilling on patios, hopping in our drop top (if we had a drop top) and hitting the beach.  Okay, maybe I'm a little ahead of myself but I love April rain because it's really just a precursor for what's to come. I've made a commitment to look as cute as possible all rainy month long to make the very best of all of those puddles.  So, I did a little shopping (when am I not doing a little shopping?) and found the prettiest raincoats and wellies at White Oaks Mall in moody blacks, playful prints and even primary brights, perfect for making a colourful statement on a grey and dreary day. Click on the thumbnails below for all of my favourite rainy day picks and get ready to splash around. Oh, you're going to look so pretty jumping in those puddles...xx

P.S - Don't miss the hilar' Old Spice Shower commercial below. Dude could totally use an umbrella :)
